For many aspiring runners out there, running 5 kilometres in 16 minutes and 30 seconds is the basic standard goal. Doesn’t matter if you’re starting from a couch potato life. But yes! you can do it.

This is the goal that many runners today set for themselves when they being their practise. If you are someone that is looking to get back in shape then you can also make this as your goal. However be warned. Doing this is no easy task.

To accomplish the goal you have to stick to a routine and make sure that you follow this routine every day. Only then can you hope to come near to achieving this goal. This is not for those that give up easily.

The first step is always the hardest

And so it will be for you when you are finally running after a long time. However, do not hesitate or give into the pain that will follow your body. Run as much as you can and make sure that you are not cheating on yourself.

Only an honest run will help you to progress

You should make sure that you can continue by gauging yourself and then timing your run. Make sure that you do lot of stretching exercises. This will help you reduce the pain.

Daily Targets

After you have an average idea of what your speed and mileage are, set yourself a daily goal. This will help you to run that extra bit every day. Each day try to run a little than what you did the day before. Also each day try to run a little faster than what you did the day before.

If you keep doing this, then the each bits from the days will add up and suddenly you will look back and see you have come way ahead from where you started. Continue on this trend and you will in no time be reaching your goal. Just make sure that you stick to this every day.

Running Diet

Diet is an important factor that will help you to reach this goal. You will need food items that give you energy and power. Starving is not the solution. You should make sure that you get your meals every day. Just make sure that you eat right and you stick to your schedule.

Do not over exert yourself. Take your time but ensure every day is a progress and make sure that you learn from each day and keep moving forward. Track your progress as this will give you a fair idea of how much you accomplished and how far you need to go.
